Am 24. Mai 2021 feierte Bob Dylan seinen 80. Geburtstag. Seit 1988 gab er bis 2021 über 3000 Konzerte im Rahmen der sogenannten „Never Ending Tour“. Jedes Jahr und jede Dekade offerierte Überraschendes und Unerwartetes im Leben und Werk Bob Dylans. Er hat sich für die Rechte der schwarzen Bevölkerung in den USA eingesetzt, lange bevor es den „black lives matter“-Slogan gab. Er hat Religionen studiert und Institutionen abgelehnt. Er hat Ehrungen abgelehnt und angenommen. Er hat das „American Songbook“ gepflegt und erweitert.

In den 60ern war er ein Idol, in den 70ern wurde er zum Star und in den 80ern war er eine Legende. In den 90ern stand Bob Dylans Name längst für ein Denkmal.

Im sechsten Jahrzehnt seines Schaffens ist die Singer/ Songwriter-Ikone mehr denn je ein unvergleichbares Gesamtkunstwerk der zeitgenössischen Künste. Kaum ein anderer Lebensweg eines Künstlers wird derart mit Aufmerksamkeit beobachtet, wie der von Rocklegende Bob Dylan. Über 500 Songs hat er geschrieben, fast 4000 Konzerte hat er gegeben. Das knapp 600 Seiten-Werk ist in drei Kapitel gegliedert. Im Prolog (Kapitel I) und Epilog (Kapitel III) sprechen u.a. Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, Roger Glover (Deep Purple) und Gene Simmons (Kiss) über den Einfluß von Bob Dylan. Im Hauptteil (Kapitel 2) wird die „Never Ending Tour“ anhand von Daten, Fakten und Fotos dokumentiert. „Bob Dylan – On The Road“ ist eine bis dato in dieser Form noch nicht vorgelegte Dokumentation von Bob Dylans „Never Ending Tour“. On the 24th of May, 2021, Bob Dylan celebrated his 80^th birthday. Since 1988, he hosted over 3000 concerts as part of his “Never Ending Tour.” Every year and every decade offered surprising and unexpected things in the life and works of Bob Dylan. He fought for the rights of Afro-Americans in the US long bevor the “Black Lives Matter,” slogan existed. He studied religions and rejected institutions. He refused and accepted awards. He fostered and expanded the “American Songbook.” The book “On The Road – Never Ending Tour,” shows over 600 unpublished photos of the most important singer/songwriter of the 20^th and 21^st century.

In the 60s he was an idol, in the 70s he became a star and in the 80s he was a legend. In the 90s Bob Dylan’s name had already become a monument. More than ever, in the sixth decade of his creating, the singer/songwriter icon’s total works have become an incomparable part of contemporary art. Hardly any artistic lifepath is being viewed with as much attention as that of rock legend Bob Dylan. He wrote over 500 songs and hosted almost 4000 concerts. Hardly any other musician is considered with that much respect and reverence.
His music influenced whole generations of musicians and fans. His song texts count as being modern lyrics. He himself appears as an anti-star. In the 60s, his name stood for the revolutionary connection between traditional folk-music and modern rock. At the end of the 80s, the rock legend began to reinvent himself.
